CARNIVAL
Running from mid-December to New Year’s Day are calypso competitions, masquerader street performances, the Festival Queen competition, and a parade of costumed troupes on New Year’s Day.
ST. PATRICK’S
St Patrick’s Festival is a weeklong celebration highlighting Montserrat’s African and Irish heritage. It culminates on St. Patrick’s Day, March 17. The celebration also commemorates the thwarted slave uprising which was planned on that very day, back in 1768. Highlights of the festival include African and Irish music performances, a freedom run, and a recreated slave village and feast.
CUDJOE HEAD
Montserrat showcases its African ancestry during Cudjoe Head celebrations that is held at the end of July or beginning of August.
CALABASH
This July event promotes local crafts incorporating the use of calabash fruit. The event involves a calabash exhibition at the Montserrat National Trust and a fair where food is served using calabash bowls and utensils.
ALLIOUGANA
The Alliouagana Festival of the Word in November brings together, acclaimed writers and readers from the Caribbean, North America, the UK and Australia for readings, conversations, lectures, panel discussions and workshops.
